Sunley / Sunley Band

I have recorded under the Sunley name since around 2005. Over a certain span of that time, I was lucky enough to play with a number of wonderful and talented people in Sunley Band.

The Golden Years Are Over

Sunley The Golden Years Are Over

I struggled with this one for a long time, and for long stretches it sat on the back-burner while I worked on other things, or spent all my creative juice on my day job. The original idea, or the departure point, was “what if Björk made Pet Sounds”, I’m not sure if that comes through in the end, but I’m very happy that it is a whole, complete thing.
The Golden Years Are Over will be out soon!

Days To Come

Sunley Band Days To Come

What had started out as a small, folk-influenced group had ended up as a big, loud, alt-country jam band. I wasn’t playing a lot with For The Quail at the time and I couldn’t help but be self-indulgent with all the delay pedals.

I made this to play around with some ideas that weren’t working with the big band and didn’t make sense anywhere else, and I really like it. It’s good to like what you’ve made!

Apologies

Sunley Apologies

This is a full-length solo record, with a number of guest vocalists but otherwise recorded almost entirely on my lonesome in a cold, oversized Dunedin bedroom.
